Kane Hodder is a standout in the ensemble and is a formidable villain. It's like a slasher film from the 1980s and the dialogue is somewhat funny and snarky. Additionally, there are some genuinely funny moments throughout that provide comedic contrast against all of the heart-wrenching action.

Unfortunately, due to the limited budget (reportedly just $1 million) most of the locations are repeats from previous films in the series--the same boat house was used two times within the movie and much of it feels like it's been recycled from other films in this franchise. Hatchet or Hatchet II may be able to recognize it as familiar, which can lead to the film feeling almost too familiar.
